Restoring Youthful Volume Naturally
Aging and weight loss can cause deflation of the face, particularly in the temples, under the eyes, in the cheeks, and along the jawline. Facial fat transfer permanently restores this volume with our own tissue for the most natural and long-lasting result.
Facial fat transfer (also called fat grafting or autologous fat injection) is a technique in which your own fat is harvested—typically from areas like the abdomen, flanks, or thighs—processed and purified, and then gently injected into facial zones that have lost tissue volume. The goal is to replenish natural fullness, smooth hollows, and restore subtle contours without synthetic fillers.
The fat is processed using the Micro and Nano Fat technique to optimize the size of the fat globules transferred to each specific anatomic area.
Over time—or after significant weight loss—many people notice flattening in the midface, hollowing under the eyes, and deflation around the cheeks, temples, and jawline. These changes are exacerbated in those using GLP-1 medications (such as semaglutide or tirzepatide), which are known to produce systemic fat loss, including in facial compartments. For these patients, underlying soft-tissue “volume loss” becomes more evident.
Facial fat transfer is particularly well suited to:
Harvesting: Under sedation or local anesthesia, a small liposuction cannula is used to remove fat from chosen donor sites.
Processing: The Micro and Nano Fat technique is used to gently purify the fat grafts. They are washed and filtered to isolate viable fat cells and prepare them for transfer.
Injection: Using microcannulas, fat is meticulously layered into facial zones, often in multiple passes to promote graft survival.
Recovery: Mild swelling, bruising, or temporary firmness is common for 1–2 weeks. Most patients resume light activities within a few days; full results evolve gradually over 3–6 months as swelling subsides and the transferred fat integrates.
Patients with volume loss from age or weight loss are typically excellent candidates for facial fat transfer. Some patients may also benefit from a skin tightening procedure like a lower face or neck lift, which is typically performed at the same time.
Yes, small areas can be treated in the office under local anesthesia if the patient is comfortable doing so. If extensive fat transfer is required, or if it’s combined with a facelift, it is best to be done in the operating room under general anesthesia.
Fat transfer does not result in any visible scars.
Depending on how well the fat graft “takes,” the procedure may result in some uneven contour that requires additional treatment. Occasionally, additional treatments are required to obtain the volume restoration a patient is hoping for.
For the most part, yes. The grafts may grow or shrink if the patients gain or lose a significant amount of weight.
